Default Rodney Carney signs with Sixers

Quote:
The 76ers have agreed to terms with forward Rodney Carney, this according to a source familiar with the situation.

Carney, 6-foot-7, has agreed to a 1-year deal. Previously, Carney spent two seasons with the Sixers: 2006-07, 2007-08. In July of 2008, Carney was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played last season.

In his 3-year career, Carney has averaged 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds a game.

wtf? didn't see this one coming. Oh well, he's going to be like the 13th man (IJ list) right?

Not a bad thing I guess. One of the few busts the Sixers have picked in late years.

Young|Kapono|Carney

Dalembert|Smith|Brezec

I think it might be Ivey who ends up on injured reserve. Iguodala, Jrue, and Green can all defend which is Ivey's specialty and Carney has the better deep ball (can't believe how much it improved last year). 79 threes on 35% for Carney in 67 games. Most he made as a Sixer was 35 in 70 games.

Kind of hard to play Ivey when he's 6'2", not an offensive threat and can't be the primary ball handler. I love him for his scrappyness but Carney's athleticism/defense/shooting will find him time somewhere, possibly stealing a bit of Kapono and Green's minutes.

Glad to see he's back. He provided a lot of energy off the bench and his 3 point shooting really started to improve toward the end of his last year as a Sixer. I also liked that he always had those high socks.

He had no other options really. And believe it or not? Sixers is a place where you can get some minutes. Not many are guranteed minutes here. You may think so. Dispite it being a 1yr deal because a guy can figure his job isnt on the line but his time very well could be. Be careful Sixers, Carney could be out to prove he is much improved since he last played here. Either way I like adding him to round out the roster. Roster looks like a playoff contender.

So many unknowns are what makes me a little excited to see what this team and new HC brings.
