    yes they are, unless they happen to be in a professional sport/competition or doing it for their school or country.

    I've competed in 2 sports at a national level. I'm a competitive person. Being overly competitive is only a negative thing if you're a bad sport about it.

    I dislike the "It's taking part that counts" crowd more than anything.
