Default A record was broken this season that no one is really talking about

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...gle_season.htm

Darren Sproles...most all purpose yardage in a single season...2,696 yards.

pretty big deal if you ask me, not sure why it isn't getting more attention...he was a monster this season

time for his agent to put in some work...$$$

I dont remember that stat getting much attention anyway.

Yards from scrimmage generally gets more love than all purpose yards. At any rate, nice season. Didnt he sign a 2yr deal or was it 1yr? I remember saying TB Bucs should have signed him. But whatever. Reggie Bush who? Uh oh, think I may have upset 2 posters here by these comments.

That's nice and all, but I tend to put more stock into yards from scrimmage, too.

Sproles had 603 rushing yards and 710 receiving yards. Again, nice. And yes, throw in the 1,089 kick-return yards, and 294 punt-return yards, and his All-Purpose yards do look really nice. But what Marshall Faulk did from 1998 to 2001 and even 2002 dwarf what Sproles did this year from the LOS. Throw prime Faulk and a number of other backs into the kick-returner role and they would have some gaudy all-purpose yardage seasons, too.

I'm not saying that yards from scrimmage isn't more impressive...it is....so is total rushing, or total recieving

I'm just saying that this is a big record

Sproles just ran the more total yards on a football feild in one season than anyone else ever has...that seems like it deserves an article or two...or at least a small mention on ESPN...just something

most fans don't know this happened...I am wondering if there are a lot of Saints fans that don't know he accomplished this

I thought he was the most significant FA acquisition of the off season. People underestimated the impact he had on the San Diego offense. Field position, his pass catching ability and speed, combined with the fact that you can line him up occassionally and run the ball, makes him a huge weapon.

There are plenty of other 3rd down specialists with speed. When most come on the field, the defense knows it's a passing situation. Many of them are also ineffective pass blockers, limiting their usefulness to receiving only. Sproles is good enough at all facets of the game that you don't tip your hand when using him.

those names should have gotten love for what they did...return yards are just as important as any other yards...why do they not count?

I think the reason no one cares about total yardage is because we all kind of know in the back of our head that a coach could throw Peterson or Chris Johnson or Charles or whoever in on every return and get that record...

HOWEVER, I think it still shows amazing versatility and durability...not all RBs or WRs could be good returners...you couldn't throw Turner at in at KR and PR...it wouldn't work

Sproles was all over the place this year and stayed healthy doing it...it should be get a little pub IMO

Thats not it. In fact I'd call a coach stupid for putting either player to return punts/kickoffs. A big part of this is looking at the leaders? They just arent notable names. If Adrian Peterson did it? Then we'd hear about it. Darren Sproles? Lets be real. He's not a household name. Thats what this boils down too. It'll probably get mentioned if it already hasnt in postseason games when his name is called/talked about. But the sportsmedia isnt going to make a big deal about a player that just isnt among the most popular. Bottomline.
