Well technically speaking, isn't verizon's LTE 4G? It's just they only let some phones connect to it right now? And the vast majority of it is 3G?

Wait here it is

Hence, IMT-Advanced (4G) is currently work in progress. 3GPP has submitted its LTE-Advanced Release 10 to the ITU to evaluate it as a possible candidate for the official IMT-Advanced standard. Release 10 specifications are expected to be approved by the end of this year. Until then, there are no official ‘4G’ networks available in the market.

Yea...people pay for the service not the name. They could call it PepsiG. If the shit is a massive speed upgrade of what relevance is the name? They know people dont care about anything but getting what they pay for. The name is immaterial.

It's not a "name", no product is actually called 4G, It's a technology and speed, which you are NOT getting. It's a buzz word to get you excited, which apparently is working wonders for the people who "don't care".

I'll have to look that up. I haven't run into any mention of that in my research.

I really hope LightSquared didn't think the military was going to change their already pre-existing technology so that some assholes can download Angry Birds faster.

It's like...does anyone remember AOL 3.0 and 4.0? Between the announcements there were small upgrades, then you'd look at the program info and it would say some shit like AOL 3.23 build 19082.

This isn't even close to a accurate comparison. The jump from 3G to "4G", or 3G LTE, or 3G HSPA, or whatever you want to call it, is more like switching from 56k dial-up to Broadband internet. I literally went from waiting for a webpage to load (3G), to streaming HD video while driving down the freeway ("4G").
