I guess that's what you need to cough up from preventing him leaving Cleveland.

He is an elite defender at this point. I think he has proven that much.
This.
People have already forgotten how comically bad the Cavs' defense was before they made the moves to get Shump and Mosgov. That dramatically improved their D and transformed them from a .500 basketball team into the best in the East.

Erm, Klay Thompson had a 40/30/90 split in the Finals. If you were to say that Iman struggled offensively after his shoulder injury in Game 2, I'd agree. But, he did his job with the way he handled Klay. He wasn't the reason the Cavs lost that series. When you're looking to Iman Shumpert as a secondary scorer, either you're a bad team or there are lots of injuries.
For the Cavs, it was the latter. For the record, though, holding Klay Thompson to 40/30 splits in a 6-game series is hard.

Jesus christ.. why do people always care about offense. Shumpert is a defensive guard.

First time that I agree with your posts. Shumpert's role is like a younger version of Bruce Bowen.

People usually remember the last thing they saw in these kinds of situations and Shump had some problems after he hurt his shoulder in the Golden State series. But, through the first three rounds and then the first two games of the Finals, he was worth every penny of a $10 million contract.
Klay Thompson shot 40% from the field and 30% from three in The Finals after having splits of 46/43/76 in the previous three rounds. That wasn't a coincidence. Shumpert was in his shirt all series.
In the ECF, Korver was 4-for-10 from three prior to getting hurt at the end of Game 2. He was having a difficult time even getting shots up.
And, Shump is only just turned 25 this past month. He's a part of the team's longterm core.
Shump was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league in 2012. Has been recuperating from knee surgery but is getting back to himself. He's lost some of his athleticism (plays smarter now tho) and hasn't recupped his speed and jumping just yet. He is a very serviceable player right now.

i wouldn't say exactly elite, that goes to guys like kwahi, tony allen, jimmy butler, i don't think shump is quite on their level, but he is one of the better perimeter defenders in the league, probably just below those guys. I thought he fell off after his injury, but he just probably wasnt trying all that hard for a shitty knicks team.

Yup, and he's actually decent offensively when he can be the 5th/6th option.
The problem in the finals is that he was expected to be one of the main scorers, and he just isn't capable of that. on the Knicks he was what... 3rd option? That's a little too much for him to handle and be effective.

Knicks all da way

Agreed with all of this. Yes his offense is inconsistent, as noticed in the Finals. But his defense? It's unquestionably consistent. He was the perimeter defender the Cavs did not have the first half of the season. The only problem I have with him on defense is his aggressive nature which sometimes lands him in foul trouble.
On offense, if only he could get a consistent 3 point shot. He could be a 3 and D guy. Think a Bruce Bowen with athleticism that could get the 50-50 ball. But his 3 pointer is very inconsistent, and sometimes it looks broke for a while. I thought he was gonna develop into Melo's #2...but it wasn't to be. Wish him the best though.
