Default Dumbtoni

Is Dumbtoni doing enough with the talent on this roster to show the class of 2010 MSG is the place to be?

How much talent do you really think "Dumbtoni" has to work with to begin with?

No, he's not. He's utilizing a system that is based on a point guard who can distribute the ball and hit open jump shots. He also needs talent who can run the floor, take and make quality shots beyond the three point arc. It works out from time to time when Harrington, Gallinari, or others catch fire. However, the talent we have is not consistent enough to play this way every night...Most of our guys can shoot and play within the three point line, but his system of play doesn't allow it...He's too hard headed to set up screens for Gallinari, Gallinari is really a rhythm shooter. Unlimited range if given time to set his feet and allowed time to get it off. any one ever notice he shoots it almost too quick? Its because he is. When left open, its automatic. Chandler is sick with his mid-range shooting, but plays aren't set for him to take them. It only happens when Chandler takes it upon himself to be more aggressive. It works, but then the coach takes him out of the game for long stretches. Anyone else notice that the number of turnovers we have as a team are way down from previous years? We used to average 23 t/o a night (its because the talent we had creating these turnovers were either dealt away or don't currently play, not coaches decisions but management. Maybe Walsh should be coach). We still have our turn overs, but most of them are from unforced turnovers, taking too many long range shots, and not being able to stop people...Personally, I believe that if the green light were given to attack the basket, take shots within the three point arc, and take three point shots when its a quality look with a high percentage shooter, our record would be much better than what it is. These things are all aspects that a coach is supposed to be focused on...Oh Yeah! Lets not forget that thing called Defense, the staple of New York Knicks Basketball. Where is it? Maybe Eddy Curry ate it.

Dolan HAS to make coach hire a defensive specialist assistant coach.
D' Antoni says he has enough coaches already, but how about getting rid of his brother, to start with. And hire a JVG type of coach that will take on the defensive responsibility to pound in to the millionaires we have playing for us, to play TEAM defense? Since coach is so stubborn, when it comes to his defense. (Or lack there of).

I agree that we need a coach who is specialised in defense. And I also agree that Dantoni needs to use the players who are on this roster better. And he needs to have a steady rotation. I do not like the way he is coaching. He has made some horrible decisions at the end of games which kept us from winning the ballgame (see: foul to give but dont tell your team, other player hits bottoms from three. Result: Knicks going home with another loss)

He is playing them. That really is the best he can do with group.

We have some nice pieces, but even Walsh knows he had to make sure we have enough cap space to hopefully land two marquee guys.
