I havent read up on the story. So NFL found out about the bounty crap, told Saints to chill. And they continued doing it and this former Saints player dropped a dime. If thats the gist of it, then Saints should get whatever they deserve.

Yep. They were getting bonuses for the wrong reasons. The point of the game is to win by scoring more points than the other team.

the person who dropped the dime, that's speculating, but the NFL telling them to cut the crap is not. At the least, the GM and the Coordinator knew, Payton might have plausible deniability of them being told to stop. GM lied to owner about it too.

Really bad timing for the Saints, with the extra emphasis on player safety these days.

To win games, its beneficial to your team to get the good players from the other team off the field, but I don't think anyone wants to see someone else leave the field on a stretcher.

Sure Saints got caught but you're naive if you think the idea these players have arent shared with other teams or even individual players. NFL countdown dedicates a segment of their show where even soap box Mr Morality Tommy Jackson is being seen screaming on cue...YOU GOT JACKED UP.

What the Saints were intending to do is...JACKING UP PLAYERS. What message do you want sent? To not get caught? Ok, fine. But you wont be able to tell if a player intent is to knock out a player.

Because its out there NFL will send a message. As a fan? I couldnt care less what the Saints did. Or if teams or other players have their own thing going on that hasnt been revealed. I like seeing a guy laying on the ground after a nasty hit. I like seeing a guy wobble left to right after a devastating hit.

Agreed 100% with this, obviously bounties shouldn't be something going on, but really it's a violent sport and I don't think there's a big difference what's going on during plays and as far as violence, bounties or not.

Its getting interesting. Apparently Mike Ornstein is associated with it now.
http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf...ation_wit.html

Quote:
Citing an internal NFL memo sent to all 32 teams about the bounty scandal, CBSSports.com reported that Ornstein on at least four occasions pledged rewards of $5,000 to $10,000 to the Saints' bounty pool from 2009 to 2011.

Among the 18,000 documents league investigators examined is an email from Ornstein to Saints' coaches last season in which he pledged money for a knockout blow to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the NFL kickoff game, according to a source familiar with the situation.

That same source insists Ornstein sent the message in jest. Payton reportedly told NFL investigators last week he did not read the email.

Whether the NFL buys either claim remains to be seen. This isn't a court of law. The league can and will rule on its own volition.
