They need to start to think for themselves, instead of always following somebody else. First it was Muhabarak or whatever his name is, and now it will be the Muslim Brotherhood.

i dont buy the whole muslim brotherhood propaganda being spread by some people. I just dont see these people gaining popularity and forming a government. Even if they do, they will not be along the likes of what a lot of people here in the US are describing them as. Besides it was not the MB that caused this revolution. It was not a party or a group that caused this. It was ordinary citizens that just had enough and started protesting. There was no leader to this. Everyone came afterwards.

Besides the country is ruled by the military. The military will not let the muslim brother make Egypt like Iran. The army along with a lot of the people want peace and prosperity in Egypt. They dont want wars with Israel or sanctions against their country. During the protests these people made sure the country was not damaged. They did not blame the US or Israel. They begged the US to support them. I did not see anyone burning flags. People guarded their neighborhoods when the police released thugs on the streets. People protected teh museum and Egypts tourist sites. You saw women, elderly and kids safely walking the streets during the riots. The rioters did not make this about the US, Israel or muslims. They made it about Egyptians which included muslims and christians and every other egyptian.

So this whole notion and scare tactics people are playing in regards to the MB is just stupid and immature. They are not that popular in Egypt anyways. If they do come in power they will not be along the likes of what certain people are thinking. They are nonviolent and corruption free. This isn't the MB of decades ago.

great post for the most part. i think i'd be careful in declaring anything about the Egyptian situation in absolute terms, but you're right, the chances of an extremist islamic anti-west government grabbing the reins in Egypt are very very slim. still, the situation isn't exactly stable, and i wouldn't be so quick to put all trust into the military, though they've proven reliable thus far. things take a down turn when unforeseen circumstances pop up out of nowhere, violence kicks into a progressively higher gear, and it isn't inconceivable that the population resorts to voting in radicals who will do more harm then good. stranger things have happened.

What the f is this bullshit? Spoken like someone who knows nothing about Egyptians. The average egyptian is quite frankly an uneducated bozo. They celebrate the Yom Kippur war (this is the war where they attacked an undefended Israeli military base and won it on a Jewish holy day, and then on the Israeli counter-attack they lost among other things the entire Sinai peninsula and their entire airforce) AS A VICTORY FOR EGYPT AND AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY! That's how stupid these people are! They celebrate a war where they got beaten into a pulp as a victory! The Egyptians, even the wealthy educated ones I went to school with at a fancy American private school in Cairo dont seem to know what actually happened and don't seem to care!

Also the citizens protected their museums? Actually the army did, the citizens stole atleast 7 pieces from the Egyptian museum and now nobody knows where they are.

I love Egypt and it's people but don't idealize them in a way they don't deserve, the country is on the whole uneducated, highly anti-semetic, has a huge passion for destroying Israel, and doesn't take care of it's own historic monuments that bring in the tourist dollars. Many of the major temples in Luxor and the Valley of the Kings have modern graffiti on them that no one bothers to wash off, people carve "Johnny <3 Gloria" into the bottom steps of the pyramids and no one does anything to stop it, this was before the protests and chaos too

you do realize that's what the protesters wanted, right?
