Default Memphis Grizzlies 2013 NBA draft results

The Memphis Grizzlies selected San Diego State guard Jamaal Franklin with the No. 41 overall pick and Latvian forward Janis Timma (YAHN-iss tee-MAH) with the No. 60 overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft, the team announced tonight.

Franklin (6-5, 191) led the Aztecs in scoring (17.0 points), rebounding (9.5), assists (3.3) and steals (1.61) as a junior last season and was the only Division I player to lead his team in all four categories. The 21-year-old was named the 2011-12 Mountain West Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring (17.4 points), becoming the first sophomore to earn the honor since Andrew Bogut in 2005.

An athletic and versatile slasher, Franklin helped guide San Diego State to three consecutive Mountain West titles and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the first three NCAA Tournament victories in program history.

The Moreno Valley, Calif. native finished his collegiate career ranked in the top 20 in SDSU history in points (1,181, 17th), rebounds (605, 14th), three-point field goals (100, 13th), free-throw percentage (.783, 10th) and blocks (51, T-16th).

Timma (6-8, 226) posted 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists on .624 shooting (.423 3FG shooting) in 25 games for BK Ventspils, guiding his team to the Latvian Basketball League (LBL) Finals last season.

The 20-year-old recorded 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists on .645 shooting in 18 games in the Baltic League and averaged 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists on .467 shooting in 12 games during the EuroChallenge last season.

A native of Kraslava, Latvia, Timma also has played professionally for Liepajas Lauvas (2011-12), BK Barons Riga (2010-11), BK Keizarmezs Riga (2009-10) and BA Riga (2008-09) in the LBL.
