An all-star is the guy who you expect to make the team every year. It's a tier thing. After superstars you have all stars. If a guy is not a superstar but is better than a fringe-all star type, he's an all star.

Examples of superstars:

Dwyane Wade
Kobe Bryant
Tim Duncan
Kevin Garnett
Lebron James

Examples of fringe all-stars:

Caron Butler
Chauncey Billups
Rip Hamilton
Antawn Jamison
Shawn Marion

Obviously there is a grey area. Like, if you called Joe Johnson an all-star I wouldn't slap you in the face. But I'd say he's more of a fringe.

So examples of all-stars would be:

Paul Pierce
Carmelo Anthony
Chris Bosh
Gilbert Arenas
Amare Stoudemire

An All Star is a guy who changes a game by his mere presence. Whether it be offense, defense, or both, he's the guy who makes his team. Of course, it helps if the team is good, but that can't always be the case...

Case in point: Paul Pierce.

An All Star is a player that is great at atleast one thing like scoring, playmaking ect. They should be players that force the other team to react to team by changing defensive strategy or offensive strategy. They be able to effect the game with their skills and change the way the game will play out. They should also be major parts of their teams.

Talking Re: Define "All-Star"

An All Star is:

1. Somebody who have a better stats whether it is points, steals, Assists and Block Shoots. ( In short dominating every aspect of the game)

2. Somebody who carries his team and absolutely making his teammates look better.

3. "All-star" as a sports term can refer to an "all-star" team selected as the best players at particular positions in team sports

Superstar- is a term used to refer to a celebrity who has great popular appeal and is widely-known, prominent or successful in some field.

For Example

Magic Johnson
Michael Jordan

and

Larry Bird
