D'Angelo (and his band The Vanguard which is credited on the release) just dropped the album of the year "The Black Messiah."

He was actually going to release this record sometime early next year, but he said now the time was right. He is about to bust the field wide open again, hopefully. He already did it twice around 1995-1997 and 2000-2002.
