Default Interview with Suns rookie Earl Clark

InsideHoops.com: You're an NBA player now. When in life did you realize it was a legit possibility that you could make the league? Earl Clark: Ever since I'm picking up a ball, that's all I've thought about, was playing in the NBA and nobody could tell me anything different. If I was a young boy in a supermarket and a lady asked you what I wanted to be, I told her I wanted to be in the NBA. My teachers, they always said, 'Earl, you want to be in the NBA? Every kid here wants to be in the NBA.' But I always told them, 'I'm special.' I knew I always had something in me that would just drive me more than other kids around me... But [as for] now, it's just what you're going to do now that you're in the NBA. InsideHoops.com

Will he even start or is a 37yr old Grant Hill going to beat him out in training camp?

That's the real question.

He's a sf/pf tweener. He plays more like a SF, but he's got the ability and the size to play a little bit in the post. Maybe once he gets a bit older, a bit slower and a bit heavier, we'll see him playing more PF.

He's shown the ability to do whatever he wants on the court, but he rarely shows it. He often looks like he's not interested or he's lost or something. If he can reach all star level, I'll be very happy, but right now it's too hard to say if he can get to that level. He's got the ability and the talent, he just needs to put the effort in.

A 220 LB PF? well, I wouldn't be surprised with how the Suns like to play small.

Though I thought their power rotation would be more like:

PF: Amare / Frye/ Amundson
C:: Lopez / Frye / Amundson

I don't think they have the versatile defenders like Marion & Bell to play as small as they used to.

BTW, I was just looking at his draft express profile:

Quote:
Height w/o shoes: 6'8.5"
Height w/ shoes: 6'10.25"

Is this guy's shoes high heels? almost 2" gained just from shoes? No wonder some of those big men constantly roll their ankles.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Clark can do. I only have seen a small portion of his games in college. He has a lot of talent, but we will see if it translates into NBA success. Very versatile, so he should be able to play multiple positions in the Suns system.
