Re: Is Leo DiCaprio the most underrated actor of all-time?
He's definitely become a pretty decent actor (though I still see him as more of a movie star than an actor). However, I compare him to someone like Brad Pitt (not good enough to win an Oscar, just always has great projects to be involved with and great directors to make them look good).
No coincidence Leo and Pitt have worked with guys like Fincher, Spielberg, Scorsese, and Nolan in the past decade.

This is why Leo is underrated. Brad Pitt is not on the same level as Leo.

He is a bankable actor but I find him unconvincing in many of his roles.

More like one of the most OVERrated actors ever.
Just because he's been associated with good projects it doesn't mean that he's a great actor. He's grown into a capable actor that can have moments, but not consistent enough to be a great actor.
So NO he's not UNDERrated, more like OVERrated in the same way Will Smith is.

Youre talking completely out of your ass....case in point, he's grown into a capable actor?? His most praised and natural roles were when he was a teen, Gilbert grapes, basketball diaries, titanic,etc...it's the new bad ass, serious actor persona that most people feel comes across as unnatural and forced

Re: Is Leo DiCaprio the most underrated actor of all-time?
He's a great actor, but he doesn't much cross into transcendent performances. Gangs of New York is a perfect example. He's great in it, is the lead, but leaves it open for Daniel Day-Lewis, and leaves it open for the director...if that makes sense. Oddly enough, it's something De Niro did a lot of. Tho he doesn't have De Niro's natural De Nironess (but how many are one of the 10 greatest actors of all-time? Even with some of the garbage he's done the last 15years).
His performance in The Departed is incredible tho. His intensity is awesome. Like in most of his work, he plays a bit below the surface, and doesn't overwhelm. But he's so good in it.
Catch Me If You Can is already different. He's at the forefront. He's slight, but he's also a kid and he stands out there. He's great in that, as well. Titanic, if we're going back that far...he's great whenever Kate Winslet is not onscreen. But their chemistry is lacking romantically...easy when the dialogue is what it is. Film could have been great, had it been written.

Aviator
Blood Diamond
Gangs of New York
Shutter Island
Inception
Catch Me If You Can
Body of Lies
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Leo in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was the greatest acting performance of all-time.
