Default Is Bynum fading?

Note the question mark bec Im basically asking a question
Last time he scored atleast 20 pts was Feb 6 vs the Sixers. Actually he had 5 straight games he achieved that feat beginning Jan 29.
After Feb 6, he had 16 pts or less in 5 of the last 6 games including 3 pts in NY. Note also that Pau has been really feeding him the ball inside so, his productiion would have been fairly less if not for Pau's and other teammates assists.
Yes, his rebounds are still good, but much of it is bec of their pretty good defense where they are top5 in FG% allowed?
Is it bec of the other team's better inside defense? That they quickly double team him, clog the lanes all the time etc?
Or is it bec of him not being assertive with his positioning? I noticed early in the season where he would ran hard to get early positioning? Not much lately, but I could be wrong.

He has looked tired the last few games. He starts out fine but in the third quarters he stops fighting through the paint and seems happy to let the ball rotate back around to him. 5 finger defense because all it takes is a hand in his chest to stop him from trying to gain position. It hurts because now you have Pau out on the edge and Bynum's not fighting for depth as well as he should and it leaves the team with no rebounding position when shots go up from the perimeter. He's never played these kind of minutes in his life. It's like hitting the rookie wall a few years late

Very good points

I think Bynum still needs a ton of work on the offensive end;

How to get position and screen off his man to get the entry pass

How to pass out of a double team and hit cutters instead of Black Hole.

Footwork and timing.

I would love to see him work with Hakeem, Vlade......even CWebb.
It really bugs me that he didn't develop a hook after all that time with KAJ.

Could be a simple case of energy saving. If Kobe and Pau are hittin shots, its more important for him to grab the boards and contest shots. When it comes down to it, he scores whenever it is needed.

He'll have a lot of 15/10 type of games, then he'll suddenly come up with a 20/15, then go back to 15/10.

His numbers though have been stellar, consistent, and very much needed. Bear in mind also, he is not the number 1 option on this team. With the amount of shots Kobe and Pau put up, Bynum will put up a modest 10-12 shots, meaning he is still being used as a third option.

It isn't something I'd worry about especially if these are games where we are winning. Take for example yesterday's game against the blazers. Bynum only took 7 shots, making 5. The rest of the team was hot. He didn't need to do much offensively, so he grabbed 19 rebounds. Not bad.

Don't lose sleep over something like that.

You made some valid points but it's not like they are winning all the time.
I agree with bobo and DK, esp the opinion where he seems like he is not fighting for better position inside as much as compared 3-4 weeks ago. The lost to NY he laid an egg with 3 pts. Yeah it's you are right Drew doesn't need to light it up when his teammates are hot but what about when they are not like the game in Toronto?
At 2 days rest he is averaging 17.3pts but at 0 games rest he is only logging in 13 pts.
My local newspaper Daily Bulletin reported verbatum.
"Bynum was puzzled over his pattern inthe rotation against the Suns and blamed morning shootarounds for not allowing his knees MORE REST."

I mean, lets be fair. Its no surprise. He is a humongous body weighing in at about 285-300 lbs, and his body is nowhere near the body type Dwight Howard has. Dwight is an athlete. Bynum isn't really a natural athlete. He needs to rest a bit more than other athletes. Shaq also needed good rest back in the day.

Default Re: Is Bynum fading?

Its both Bynum's fatigue and how teams are adjusting.

They are definitely throwing more double teams and Drew is still very inexperienced how to handle a double team.

Once he gets used to it and develop how he handles double team, he will be better tho.

Once the team has good 3 pt shooting (is it coming? ), Drew will have more space in the paint and that will definitely help him.

His role still seems to be rebounding, defending and blocking shots. He isn't getting the high amount of shots to get score 20+ every night.

Bynum is giving this laker TEAM exactly what is needed from his position. Once they opening up the floor by providing consisted outside shooting, then Bynum would be a 20/17.

Plus, he's still developing and hasn't hint his full protiental yet. So no he's not fading
