Default thoughts/opinions on the Yankees' no facial hair policy

Obviously, this isn't something new, but I just wanted to raise the subject. To me, this is a stupid rule to have in the first place. There's nothing trashy about a well trimmed goatee or beard. Steinbrenner is really living in the past if he thinks that this is a good way to control people. Besides, guys like Clemens, Giambi, Posada, etc are sporting some major 5 o'clock shadows on a daily basis.

I realize that being clean shaven might be important in the corporate world and the Yankees are run like a corporation, but let's face it, They aren't a corporation, they are a BASEBALL team. Besides, over the course of a long season when the games become meaningless, it can be somewhat entertaining to follow the various facial hair patterns of players (such as David Ortiz and Kevin Millar)

I remember some years back when the Reds acquired noted slugger Greg Vaughn at the trading deadline. He basically refused to shave his goatee, saying something along the lines of he didn't want to scare his young children, because they were used to seeing their dad with a goatee. The Reds eventually overturned that rule because of Vaughn's decision not to shave.

What if the Yankees are ever put into a similar situation, where they aquire someone who refuses to follow the policy. What do you think would happen?

When Joe Girardi managed the Marlins, he didn't even allow his players to grow mustaches. At least the Yankees aren't THAT strict.

Sal Fasano would have a MAJOR gripe about that.......

If you are Sal Fasano and the Yankees aquire you, then you better shave your goatee or else.

If you are a superstar and the Yankees need your services badly, then I bet you could put up a fight, but noone has really tried.

In my opinion, it is a stupid rule. As long as you bring it every game it shouldnt matter what you look like as long as you are wearing the correct uniforum.

But they shouldnt really complain about this considering the money they are making.

Pretty much. No one is forcing them to play in the MLB.

(Seriously.. of all the things to whine about. Plenty of people don't get to have facial hair due to their job.)
