Talking How 'bout them Spurs?

How 'bout them Spurs?

Going into the first round of the NBA playoffs there were few that thought the San Antonio Spurs had a chance against the high powered Dallas Mavericks.

Three games into the series and the first upset of the NBA playoffs may be imminent. San Antonio has actually been running the show during this series. With the exception of Game One, they have not been behind very often.

Tim Duncan and company pretty much controlled Game Two. With the exception of a 17 point run by the Mavericks in the second half of Game Three the Spurs essentially controlled that game as well. One thing missing since Game One for the Mavericks has been one of their newcomers, Caron Butler. Butler’s 22 points along with Nowitzki’s 36 points led to a win in Game One. However since then, the forward dropped to 17 points in the second game and to a measly 2 points in 15 minutes in Game Three. In regards to the performance of the Mavericks in Game Three, Jason Terry summed it up with,” “The only thing I can look at now is missed opportunities. You’ve got a nine-point lead in the latter stages of the game.

A good team, a championship team, holds that lead and walks away with it.” (Yahoo) The series has not just been miscues by Dallas. San Antonio has had some inspiring play by its veterans to help lead the team to victory. A perfect example came from shooting guard Manu Ginobili.
