Ricky may not be a perfect player, but if he is able to gel with players like Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell, Rodney Hood and gang, he could be a solid Jazz point guard for years to come.
You need players that fit around Rudy and Mitchell. Mitchell is obviously going to need the ball in his hands. How does Rubio make any sense? How did he ever? They often have him playing off the ball like George Hill never left!
“Who was that?,” Jazz coach Quin Snyder says to me, laughing, a couple of days after Rubio’s scoring explosion. “I thought we had a pass-first point guard!”
Don't have that either unless we're talking Neto
“I’ve played with a lot of doubts the last few years. I don’t have any doubts anymore.”
it would appear otherwise
“Playing five-on-five in half court is sometimes hard for me,” Rubio says. “I’m getting better at it, but I know I’m at my best when I’m in the open court and I can be creative. I can see more. I can use my advantages easier.”
And yet here he is with the slowest team in the league!
Meanwhile, Snyder had turned the Jazz into a stealth Western Conference contender
or Rudy did anyway
“Sometimes,” he says, “taking the shot is the best option. I like to share the ball and make my teammates better, but sometimes the most unselfish thing or the best thing for the team is to shoot it.” Most opponents, though, will still gladly allow Rubio any shot he desires. He’s shooting 37 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3, still among the worst marks of any starting player in the league.
Rudy in my opinion would equal peak Dwight Howard (Remember him? Beat LeBron in the playoffs?) if he was surrounded by a roster like the one those Magic teams had, oozing shooting at every other position.
you mean like last year?
I think DL pulls off a trade this year.
Hard to see him not but I've thought that through his whole tenure so who knows with that clown
1) Trade Rodney Hood to the Washington Wizards for Kelly Oubre Jr.
2) Trade Derrick Favors, Ricky Rubio and Joe Johnson to San Antonio for LaMarcus Aldridge and Tony Parker.
The Spurs are smarter than that and aren't trading Parker and they just signed Aldridge to an extension and I doubt Washington wants to pay Hood. Their way over the tax now after signing Porter I believe
Or perhaps trade either Burks or Ingles, instead of Joe Johnson, to give the Jazz more salary cap room next off-season.
Anyone that has any value at all and doesn't fit with the TWO needs to go!
the fact that he’s getting the ball a lot more than he has in the past should help produce more assists
He's not now though. They have him playing off the ball. Tell me again how that makes any sense or how he ever made any sense on a team that likes to use multiple playmakers?
I think it’s time the Jazz look to make a change at the point guard position in which Rubio’s minutes are dramatically reduced and Raul Neto sees an uptick.
He's a bench player unless he is on a team with shooters. The problem with that is Hood needs the ball in his hands. Moving Rubio to the bench is a bad fit still
the Jazz will likely be looking for a replacement point guard anyhow, be it among their ranks (such as in Dante Exum) or in free agency, so rather than continue to struggle with him on the floor, the Jazz need to look to do what will work the best for the team.
Was wondering how long before Exum's name came up. Mitchell needs to play the one and fill the box score like he did in the one game he started there. If Exum can defend and hit open shots there will be a place for him. If not he can go back down under
I was among the many that had high hopes for Ricky Rubio coming into the season,
yeah you were calling him an all-star with about half of them. You ready to give up yet?
