honestly im still surprised that Babcock was able to swing a deal with Rafer Alston for Mike James and then now James is going to head back to houston...i think The rockets will be strong if both McGrady and Yao can stay healthy then they are gonna be a strong team...but honeslty i really like Swift
Top 4 teams are the 3 Division winners + whoever has the best record outside of those teams. Then they take those 4 and put them in order of best record.
For example, this past playoffs were...
San Antonio (Division Winner)
Suns (Division Winner)
Nuggets (Division Winner)
Dallas (Next best record after DW's)
-----------------------------------
Memphis
Clippers
Lakers
Kings
But with the new setup they would have been...
San Antonio (Division Winner)
Dallas (Next best record after DW's...less wins than SA but more than PHX)
Suns (Division Winner)
Denver (Division Winner)
-----------------------------------
Memphis
Clippers
Lakers
Kings
So, it really only effects the first 4 seeds directly. So, if the Spurs, Mavs, and Rockets had the top 3 records in the West, the Rockets would still end up with the 5th seed, not the 3rd. Does that make any sense?
This is an exerpt directly from wikipedia: "...The situation above was not a problem back when each conference was aligned into two divisions as it would have required that a division have the four best records, and that these four teams be considered very formidable to the other teams in their conference, as are the Spurs and Mavericks).
It is expected that seeding and home-court advantage based solely upon won-loss record (with the division winner only being guaranteed entry into the playoffs, but not a high seed) will be implemented before the 2007 season."

Interesting, and I definitely could be mistaken, although I can't help but be cautious of trusting something just because it's posted on wikipedia.
At The End Of The Season.. Even Though The Seeding Was Different.. And Changes Probably Will Be Made Again.... At The End Of The Season And Playoffs... No Matter How They Get There.. The True Nba Champion Will Win... The Best Team Will Win... Its Not The Seeding.. But Outside Factors That Dertimine Who Will Win.. Like Health... Team Chemestry.. Leaders, And Role Players...
I Think I Made A Great Point!! Lol Im Kidding
