If he asked out, do you think he was going to reconsider coming back for anything less than 12-15mil and at least a 3-4yr deal? Doubt it. So at that point as mgmt, yea you had no choice but to let him go.

No, you didn't.

He was a restricted free agent. There was nothing at all about "you had to let him go"...and he had a pretty low cap hold in a team friendly market as well.

Yea. Most Lakers fans were saying he was essentially worthless not long ago.

Now it's "they had no choice but to let a quality player go"...which isn't true of course.

Just like it was never true that he was a scrub.

Bruh dont make things up. I can guarantee you "most" laker fans actually liked Randle and wish he stayed. Maybe in his 1st season when he was a retard (rightfully so, he was terrible), but last season? WE ALL loved him. Dude can switch on to ANYONE. He's lowkey a really good defender.

You’re not following the flow of what happened...

-Randles up for RFA...knows Lebron is coming, and says regardless he wants heavy minutes, starting role and looking for a long term deal.

-LAL FO says they can’t guranatee that for him but will still bring him back on any qualifying offer he receives

-Randle isn’t pleased by that, asks to be released in search of a new home

Now what should LAL have done?

-say yes to his guarantees and basically kiss the future landings goodbye?
-let him play the market, then go and win him back by outbidding whoever is willing to sign him...again leveraging the future signings?

In both scenarios, paying him cripples their cap space for future FAs...and you can already see the mindset of LAL FO had in not doing this with all the 1yr contracts.

Again, he’s not a player that’ll put u over the top...a good role player, and honestly you move with Kuz, Hart and the likes just based on the leagues style of play these days for role players. all this bickering over him being kept is just the nature of the beast with business moves, cuz come next with a huge signing...no one gives 2 fcks he ever left.

Claims lebrons run is overachieved due to the weak east, however continues to prop up wade and Bosh, and the Heat bcuz of lebron.

If you can’t hold the same story constant and have to nitpick what to highlight and not, then your rebuttals are basically worthless.

In one thread it’s ... “lebron coliuded with the best of the best from the east”

A next thread...” lebron overachieved, cuz the east is weak, accolades mean shit bcuz of that, etc”

Stop putting this on magic like he simply let him go, Randle asked out and Magic gave him his wishes.

He's not starting. You don't think he'd play more on a team without Davis and Mirotic?

which makes his move seem stupid...he demanded this from the Lakers but Ok playing backup in NOP.

Is what is, this topic needs to die already. Can revisit it if Randle breaks out as a start level taken and have no problem admitting the Lakers fcked up on the decision. But for now, they’re set on superstar landing(s) which is the aggressive way to rebuild. No one wants to sit through 5-10yrs of developing hopefuls.

What should they have done?

Tried to make it work with a young talented player you drafted in the top 10 rather than lose him for nothing.

You think because it isn't a huge deal, it doesn't matter. I have never said this is an enormous mistake or something.

It is simply a franchise not operating optimally. Which the Lakers have done for years now.

Simple as that.

The fact that you people can't admit that losing a top 10 pick like Randle as a restricted free agent for nothing in the most team friendly free agency...maybe in the modern era...is bad...is perplexing.

And, of course, it was made worse when they brought in guys that don't make sense presently and don't have a future on the team anyway in place of him essentially.

Lost top10 pick Randle who’s at best a role player
Gained Lebron
Potentially gain two other stars

Yeah let’s just live in the moment in hopes Randle becomes a 25/10 star while guys like AD, Kawhi, Klay can be had

This is the same Boston mentality...keep the rooks, keeps the picks and hope things work out for the best, rather than deal heavy for stars to push over. Raptors made the moves to get Kawhi and now looking like the easts finals rep rather than Boston. But yea, sit back and let’s wait on it

He demanded and they delivered. They screwed up. Bringing him back wouldn't have kept them from going after a superstar. His expiring contract might have actually helped get one

DING DING DING.

At some point you have to make bold moves. Toronto is a prime example because that move, regardless of where kawhi is going after, is going to give the Raptors the best change for a ring EVER. They didnt wait and stockpile assets to be 3rd seed every year.

Lakers only want players with one year contract, so they're looking at the big picture.
