Default Explain the Grateful Dead and their rabid support to me

I don't get it. I've heard Deadheads say that it's like speaking a language. If you speak that language, it's GOAT tier, but if you don't then you will never understand the hype.

I'm just taken aback and kind of impressed at the way these songs (I enjoy the ones I've heard, but none instantly blow you away) have inspired this heavy metal type passion for all these years.

Seems like the Wire of classic rock; once you get past the 4th episode you're in for the long haul, but if you don't you'll throw it back and everyone will shake their heads at what you're missing out on.

Not a deadhead, never been to a show of theirs. But if you're trying to listen to their albums to understand, you never will. A 5 minute gdead song on the album is a 25 min jam live. They are like the original psychedelic bay area jam band, they bring people back to the nostalgia of the acid wave of the promethean '60s... and people find lots and lots of really good drugs at their shows.

I hope I have helped.

Jerry Garcia is a frequently brilliant guitarist whose shining moments during live shows propel the whole band. Hard to say where to start though with their vast catalogue. There's a live movie they had which is probably the best entry point.

LSD - They were there from the very begining of Acid.

Great book to read: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test .....I can highly recommend it to all you youngsters. This gives you a good insight into the roots of the 60's hippy movement and the birth of the Grateful Dead.

I never liked their music....thought I should mention that.

haha. I respect Bill Walton, but I dunno about the Dead. They have some good songs, though. Obviously talented, but I'm not into their long formless jamming.

But maybe it's like ol dude... Buffet, in that it's more of a lifestyle. Dunno.

I hate to sound so cliche, but it sounds a lot better with a head full of acid.

never did acid; I would die.

I have however smoked an enormous amount of weed while listening to music. The Dead songs they'd play on the radio are all decent, but if you smoke and you're like man I got about an hour to really delve into some music, you're not gonna waste that shit on the dead... or I'm not. But I like a lot of weird shit that no one else likes, so...

You can't die from acid.

What kind of music do you like? Best case scenario is I've never heard of any of it. I am always looking for new artists to enjoy.
