The Dallas Cowboys answered the offseason's largest looming question with a simple announcement Monday.

Dallas announced Monday the franchise has agreed to terms on a new contract with franchise quarterback Dak Prescott. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million deal to stay in Dallas.

The deal has a maximum value of $164 million, including $126 million in guaranteed money, and includes two key details: A no-trade clause, and a no-tag provision. Prescott's deal averages to $42 million a year over the first three seasons with $75 million in the first season and a $66 million signing bonus.

If we're ever going to get the job done, it's gonna be through the Offense.

Maybe, just maybe we can have a rebuilt defense by the year 2022... but we're gonna have to hit on more than one draft pick this year.

I suspect we will go with a cornerback at #10... but would prefer a defensive lineman.

I'm a bit torn TBH...the money is not as bad as it looks as it's set up to spread over 6 years and the cap hit is only $22m this year.

BUT...it really is a LOT of money



Here's the deal though...the alternative is Andy Dalton...Cowboys basically put in the position of overpaying Dak or moving forward without a QB and restarting the search completely which can take years.

The way I see it, We have our star players set for the next 3-4 years.

Prescott & Zeke with Tyron, Z.Martin, L.Collins on the O-line and Cooper & Lamb as the weapons at WR.

You can't ask for much more than that on offense going into the next 3-4 years. I try to have faith in Tyron Smith's health, but have lost faith in LVE. LVE can no longer be depended on, so a LB is still needed on this roster.


We're not going to be able to resign any of the players we develop, so our window of opportunity is short.

Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods will sign elsewhere which is why we should go CB at #10. Anthony Brown and Donovan Wilson should be solid in the secondary for 2021 but are UFAs after that.

Just build around D-Law, Jaylon Smith, T.Diggs best we can. Randy Gregory should be a beast in 21' if everything works out, just wish we could get Aldon Smith back. Also... more will be expected from Neville Gallimore (DT).

Still got a year left of Michael Gallop and two years of Pollard. We will see if Jarwin can hold up at TE, but Dalton Schultz is a solid back up.



All that said... I just can't imagine the Cowboys drafting anything but Defense with pick #10 and #44

DE, DT, CB, S, LB .... we will need help at all 5 spots going into 2022.

2022 will most likely be the only year in Dak's 4 year contract where he competes for that #1 seed.

I think it's possible he gets to the NFC championship game if all goes well in the next two drafts.

2021: 9-7
2022: 12-4
2023: 8-8
2024: 8-8

record over 4 year contract: 37-27, NFC championship game appearance

If Dak can do something like that, it will be money well spent imo.

I'm okay with it I guess... everyone got hurt last year.

Injuries aside, We will be a top 5 offensive juggernaut in the league for the next 3-4 years.

We just need to scrape together a defense that can play worth a $hit... that will be the challenge here.

If Jerry is serious about getting #4 before he kicks the bucket. He should have made a play for Deshaun or Wilson. Dak plays ok with he has help ,he's a borderline game manager. If the team is dogsh** he's gonna play awful. I cant see him having 3 good/great playoff games in a row to make or win a Superbowl.

They tagged him last year, if they tagged him again and he had a good season he would have been preposterously expensive to keep next year.

IIRC in reading the other day, tagging Dak was not an option for Dallas as it would have been his 2nd tag year and would have cost mid-$40M which is a number they couldn't possibly fit into this year's salary cap.

So the options were giving Dak this current contract, or moving forward with Andy Dalton and/or using up a high draft pick on a QB

I do think this is to much money for a QB coming off an injury like Dak's...BUT I do favor this direction as opposed to the alternative.
