JaVale McGee Will Be The #1 Pick in the 2008 NBA Draft
I like Beasley,Rose, and Mayo but this kid has impressed me so much that I now am on the JaVale McGee bandwagon.
All of you should join me and hop on because at the end of the season his bandwagon will be huge.

NBA Comparison:Andrew Bynum
Strengths:Long athletic bigman who is absolutely bursting with potential ... Runs the floor exceptionally well ... Improving at a rapid pace on both ends of the floor. Has freakishly long arms: around a 7-6 wingspan which makes him a great rebounder and shot blocker ... Can really become a force defensively when he adds strength and discipline on opponent's shot fakes ... His length makes it extremely difficult for opponents to get shots over ... His offensive game is showing a lot of promise with developing back to the basket skills. He even shows some ability to face the basket and make drives or spot up ... Has a competitive spirit that is not apparent in many bigmen who picked up the game because of their size. A late bloomer who went underrecruited out of Chicago. McGee's parents were both professional basketball players so he has been around the game from a young age ... Shows solid form and touch on his shot ... Has a tremendous frame which should allow him to get much stronger and retain his great agility and athleticism ... Gives great effort and shows very good stamina for a bigman his age ... Added strength will give him better balance and make him a lot more effective imposing his will inside ... Has the potential to be a top 5-10 center in the league someday (if he's patient about entering the NBA) ... Has even shown the ability to knock down shots from college 3, no question influenced by the presence of Nick Fazekas last year ...
Weaknesses:
Still must gain maturity. He gets frustrated far too easily and loses his composure quickly when calls go against him, or when he's struggling ... Still growing into his body and game, learning what he's capable of and steadily becoming a factor night in and night out ... Needs to develop some go to moves. A reliable jump hook would make him an absolute force ... Must improve from the free throw line (50% wont cut it). He has solid shooting touch and should be able to raise his FT shooting to at least 70-75 percent over time if he develops a consistent routine and works at it ... Should be wary of leaving school early. It's likely he would be a first rounder this year, but a third year in college would really help him in the long run as he would be much better prepared for the NBA and not run the risk of losing confidence and falling short of his full potential ...
On Thursday,December 27th Nevada plays #1 North Carolina
This is the game where McGee will be able to get his name out there, because currently hes just a high potential prospect only NBA scouts know of.

He might be a nice player but to say he will be drafted ahead of studs like Beasley,Rose,Mayo and Gordon is just dumb.

Re: JaVale McGee Will Be The #1 Pick in the 2008 NBA Draft
^^The truth is.
Michael Beasley is good but like another member said,he hasnt played anybody really and now teams are double teaming him.
Hes still getting his double-double but hes not been playing like an impact player like Durant was last season.
Hes still #2 in my eyes
Derrick Rose is going to be good too but he has been so inconsistent, and thats been a knock on his game.
Some nights he looks great and is making an impact, other nights hes just on the court playing the motions with fans hoping he makes a play.
OJ Mayo is just trying to prove he is a true PG,but he isnt and we all know it but hes on the court trying to be a team player and set guys up with a good look.Learn from Gilbert,Just Score.
His teammates will get their points whenever they do.
Eric Gordon is Not going to be a the #1 pick no matter what he does,he has a 20% chance of even being a Top 5 pick.

For that too happen wouldn't you think he'd show up on someone's draft board at this point?

No.
Nobody knew who Bargnani was until 2 months before the draft, same with Andrew Bogut who wasnt actually expected to be #1.
McGee is already one draft board's as a projected lottery pick, some mocks have him at #3 for 2009 others have him at #11 in 2008.

a lot of the mock drafts suck...they base a lot off of hype.

People did know who Bargnani and Bogut were before hand.

On Draft Express (which is probably the most respected) he's not even listed in either the first or second round and he's the 44th ranked sophomore in country. He might be a good player, but right now he's not a lottery pick.

Bargnani had been known since he was like 15. Bogut had a great senior year and a lot of other players didn't have good years that year and thus fell.
Likelihood of McGee being number 1 is very, very slim. Basically he would have to win the tournament and blow everyone away at the draft camp. That wasn't enough for Melo to even go top 2, as a guy people were hearing about for 2 years in the same situation. A couple of guys getting a load of hype over him.

If he's added to the Twolves roster, do you think he'll be their best player right away?
Keep in mind that the last year's college best player, Kevin Durant, isn't even the best player on the freakin' Sonics. Duke can't beat an NBA team. Period.
