I highly recommend turning the volume up and just sit back and enjoy the show, it really is a musical experience. These guys are highly talented, working only with vinyl making some of the best music I've ever heard.

Biography:

Quote:
Den Sorte Skole (L'Ecole Noir) is a Danish DJ crew deeply rooted in the old-school vinyl tradition, dedicated to cutting up breaks and samples on vinyl records, by hand.
Influenced by genres as diverse as hip hop, folk, dub-steb, rock, electronica, reggae, classical, world music, drum’n’bass and triphop, they take the listener on a truly unique journey into the enchanting realms of a different musical world. The sound is original, massive and hardcore.

Their live performances unfold on 6 turntables with hundreds of records hitting the decks. Unlike other turntablists, scratching is only used for extra finesse, as their ambition is to mix the hundreds of soundbites into a seamless collage of sound, creating the impression that the original was initially like this.
Den Sorte Skole has performed all over Scandinavia including Roskilde Festival ‘06, ‘08 and '09, Stavanger Nordic Music Week ‘08 and Copenhagen Jazz Festival ‘06, ‘07 & '09.

Their unusual cross-genre selection and reliance on traditional djing skills has won the crew a big and loyal following in Denmark and Scandinavia, earning them the distinction of being named as Best DJ’s at the “Danish Hip Hop Award 2006”. Their latest album Lektion #2 was one of the most critically acclaimed Danish albums in 2008 – since then, the band has only fanned the flames with sold-out concerts.

Discography:

Quote:
In May 2008 Den Sorte Skole released their second full-length endeavour “Lektion #2” - available on 2LP and CD. This 65 minute musical collage was created from 403 separate vinyl samples ranging from the Spanish International Brigades, British soft porn soundtracks, and Turkish women’s liberation anthems to rap legends and doom boom from the deep eighties. A complete blueprint of the sample collage, including timelines for the six turntables, is found in the gatefold of the 2LP.

“Lektion #2” has been lauded by the Danish press as one of the best Danish albums of 2008 and has been downloaded more than 20.000 times (see reviews below).

In 2006 Den Sorte Skole released their long player, “Lektion #1”, which contained a 74 LP mix performed on four turntables and three mixers. The overriding idea was to bring together artists stretching from Neil Young and Janis Joplin to Company Flow and Afrika Bambaataa. “Lektion #1” was named as “Best Danish Hip Hop-album of 2006” by the leading hiphop magazine in Denmark, Rapspot.dk. It was followed by the vinyl EP “Svinemalkeren” in 2007.

They're pretty good, but I think you're getting a little carried away. Lektion #1 is a good album, I haven't listened to Lektion #2 yet, though. They're supposedly one of those bands you have to see live.

The link has a live performance, most of it is Lektion #2 but with some extra stuff added for the concert.

Lektion #2 is way better than #1. Why do you think I'm getting carried away?

I started watching the clip, but got bored by the endless initial speech in danish. What makes me think you're getting carried away is your statement that they make some of the best music you've ever heard. Of course it's your opinion, so I'll listen to lektion #2 and give you mine afterwards (if I remember). Just for the record, I like them a lot. They've been on my playlist for a long time now.

lol the intro speech is like 2 mins, you should definitely listen to the concert instead of the regular Lektion #2, there are some small additions that really help, like when they run Beastie Boys lyrics from "pass the mic" over a flute beat that used to go by itself.

And for me it's not over the top to say it's some of the best music I've ever heard, I've never enjoyed an album as many times as Lektion #2.
