Default Derek Fisher in 09-10

Im thinking that he could be used more effectively off the bench next season primarily as a shooter and a leader for the 2nd unit. I'd like to know anyones opinions on how the lakers could best use fisher next season and if shannon brown is the answer for the lakers starting PG role next year.

I have thought the same thing.

I would like him to stay, but as a shooter off the bench. Like what eddie house was for the celtics. He'd be huge for us. When Sasha gets out of his slump, thats 2 guys stretching the floor.

Hopefully Farmar can be a starter next year. I believe he has earned it now, and he will make us more of a threat because he is an above average scorer in the paint. Better than fish anyways lool.

It really doesnt matter if Fish starts or not, we just need him for 24 min a game and make sure hes out there for the last 5 minutes of the game. Keep him fresh for the playoffs.

Remember the way the Lakers run their offense they dont need a stud at pg, they just need a stable player.

I dont know if Brown could develop into a starter, and I'm not sold on Farmar either. Then there is Sun Yue. I have a feeling that one of them will be gone next year. Most likely Yue or Brown.

Well, Fisher has obviously lost a step, but he wasn't shooting well either at all in the playoffs. I don't know if he is on a slump but if Fisher is not able to shoot then we have a problem with him playing for long stretches.

He is still a clutch shooter, but the last 5 minutes of a game is not the only stretch that matters. We need somebody that can play the rest of the game. When Fisher's shot is not on fire, he really does not provide much on either end of the floor. I do not think he can defend fast PGs like Parker, and also cannot guard strong PGs like Billups. If his shot is not going in then he becomes a liability on the offensive end as well.

What really is Fischer's purpose on the team? He does play smart basketball but isn't much of a producer. He had 9 assists during the entire playoffs despite playing a lot of minutes. Wouldn't it be better to use Farmar more? We all know that Kobe runs the offense.

as others have mentioned, it would be a good idea to have fish coming off the bench especially if farmar, brown or any other pg who's going to be playing next season. it would be wiser for them to gain experience as a consistent starter to build their confidence leading up to the playoffs.

as fish is declining, is role on the team would better suited where he can become a mentor and giving advice to the other pgs next season.

If you think that what Fisher brings to the Lakers is shown by way of the boxscore.. then you know very little about The Little Bulldog....

I dont trust Farmar yet. He tends to be erratic at times and shoots ill advised shots. If you have watched Fish over the years, you would know that he is not an assist type of guy. Never has, never will. He isnt going to get many assists in the triangle. But he makes the correct decisions most of the time, something that doesn't show up in the boxscore.

Well I don't know about that, that could be because he plays little minutes and just wants to score as much as possible.

If you noticed furing fisher's suspension, he knew the minutes in that game were guaranteed. So he had a great game and played within the offense and let the game come to him.

Great point Lakerfreak once Farmar knows he's the starter I personnely think his proformance will pick up even more. Farmar has been menitor by Fisher over the last two years. However, we need to keep DF on the team just not the starter anymore.

Farmar will get the nod, and Brown will get the opportunity to come off the bench and make a difference. Farmar knows the triangle and will be able to do an adequate job defending most of the starting pgs in the NBA right now.
