Default Mavs postgame notes (Dec. 26) after beating Bobcats

· Charlotte has scored fewer than 90 points in each of the past four matchups against Dallas. The Mavericks extend their win streak to seven games which is tied for the ninth longest in team history.

· The Mavericks win tonight coupled with the Spurs loss to Milwaukee puts Dallas ahead in its division by half a game.

· Fresh of being named Western Conference Player of the Week, Josh Howard scored a game-high 27 points in 35 minutes of play. He has scored 20+ points in four of the last five games and in nine of the past 14. Howard is averaging 20.8 points over the past 14 games. Dallas is 9-1 when he scores 20+ points this season.

· Dirk Nowitzki has only led the Mavericks in scoring once over the past seven games. To put that into perspective, over his final 28 games played in 2005-06, Nowitzki led the team in scoring 27 times.

· Dirk Nowitzki scored 23 points to go along with Josh Howard’s 27. Dallas improves to 12-1 when two or more players score 20+ points this season.

· The Mavericks have held their past six opponents below 100 points and four of those six below 90. Dallas is 10-0 when holding its opponent below 90 points after going 32-2 in 2005-06. Over the past 20 games, Mavericks opponents are averaging just 88.3 points per game.

· Devean George scored 12 points off the bench tonight. He has scored 10+ points in each of the past three games after doing so just once in his first 17 games played this season.

· Erick Dampier had a game-high 10 rebounds tonight and has now grabbed 10+ boards in two of the past three games after not doing so in the first 11 games of December. Dallas is 7-0 when he has 10+ boards this season.

· The Bobcats did not have a player score above 17 points tonight. Dallas has held its opponent without a 20-point scorer in four of the past six games after allowing back-to-back 30-point scorers on 11/11 at Utah (Carlos Boozer) and 11/13 vs. the Lakers (Kobe Bryant). The Mavericks are 9-1 when their opponent fails to have a 20-point scorer after going 16-2 in 2005-06.

· Charlotte shot 66.7% (12-18 FGs) in the first quarter but just 32.8% (19-58 FGs) the rest of the way. The Mavericks outshot the Bobcats 48.7% to 40.8% for the game and improve to 17-0 when shooting a higher percentage than their opponent this season.

Easy one for Dalls. Put them on top of the division since the Spurs lost, but it'll still be a tight race to see who pulls out the division. The games they play against eack other will be crucial.

It's the easy ones you have to look out for. That same Bobcats team beat the Spurs and Cleveland so far this year.

Barring injury, I expect the Mavs and Spurs to battle it out for the division all season like they have the last couple of years. Too bad injuries to NO, Houston and Memphis have kept it from being an even bigger battle.
