I don't see Avatar winning best picture. Just doesn't seem as though they like to go for those movies in that category. I just don't think it has enough quality drama to take it.

The only main categories I'm likely going to have major issues with are Best Picture and Best Actress.

Best Picture:
Should win: Inglorious Basterds
Will win: The Hurt Locker
- A Serious Man and Up In the Air were also better than the Hurt Locker. It won't be a bad choice but to me, those 3 would clearly be better choices.

Best Actress:
Should win: Carey Mulligan (maybe the best overall performance I saw all year)
Will win: Sandra Bullock
- This one confuses me so much. The Blind Side was a pleasant movie and Bullock was solid but THIS was a performance that is going to win an Oscar? Are they serious? This reeks of a "we like her and she'll probably never come close again, so let's just give it to her now" award.

I didn't like it at all, really. Coraline was my favorite film of the year. Pixar and their happy go lucky movies are getting boring and Coraline was refreshing.

glaring omissions-

best picture - Moon

best actor - Sam Rockwell


I also don't think Avatar is going to win.
I don't think Up In The Air deserved all the nominations.
I liked Hurt Locker but it wasn't top 5 best picture this year to me.
If Christoph Waltz doesn't get BSA, something's f*cked.

rockwell was good and all, as was viggo/christopher plummer/morgan freeman etc etc all good performances but jeff bridges gave what might be one of the all time great lead performances, seriously. up there with recent greats like day-lewis(there will be blood) and forrest whitiker in last king of scotland. honestly its on that level.

I still can't get over how she's going to win Best Actress such for such a relatively ordinary performance though.

I hope Woody and Jeff Bridges split best actor. Then Woody says screw you for not nominating me for White Men Can't Jump, and Bridges for Big Lebowski. Then they light their Oscars on fire.
