Re: Orlando has no recollection of Dwight ever playing there.
On the Pistons you have:
Andre Drummond wears Chauncey Billups number, also Iverson wore it immediately following the Billups trade.
Rodney Stuckey wears Ben Wallace's number, Ben even switched to a different number when he came back as a result.
Worst of all, Greg Monroe wears Dennis Rodman's number, even though it is already retired.

Of course they shouldn't retire his jersey. He gave them 7 good years, they gave him 10s of millions of dollars. They have no obligation to love him or respect his legacy after he forced them to engage in a trade that has them right back in the lottery. If anything they might want to bar his jersey because they don't want to be reminded of him but that goes overboard in the opposite direction.

And now Khris Middleton's wearing Richard Hamilton's #32.

Theres an unwritten rule they broke.
Jazz gave Dantley's number to the guy they traded him for, Tripuka. They finally got over their bitterness for whatever made them trade their franchise player in the first place and retired his number a few years ago. Which was appropriate since they had retired many inferior players numbers in the meantime including a number for the shitty coach that they chose him over that caused the trade initially.
If Orlando hasn't retired other jerseys than I don't see why they'd retire Dwights.

To be honest part of me doesn't like jersey #'s to be retired. I would like to see more #'s that had a legacy of greatness that was passed down from era to era. At the same time than you would have players who would not be able to live up to the pressure of the #.
