the fault in our stars. 9/10

i really don't give 9's out that often but man, this movie hit me hard. i thought it was a little pretentious at first but there's so many moving moments in this movie, especially in the last half. just a genuine soulful movie with a great cast and direction

One of the funniest movies ever made IMO, probably a top-5 comedy for me, the list of quotable material from this movie is endless.

Very very underrated and under appreciated movie. Billy Bob is great in this movie.

Cake: 7.8/10

Did not know Jennifer Aniston had that in her. Great performance and she should be a favorite on the awards circuit. Solid film overall with some unique concepts/narrative style.

The Theory of Everything: 7.5/10

Redmayne and Jones were great, Redmayne especially. Just wish they focused more on Hawking's work and influence on Science instead of all the domestic stuff.

Movie sent 2 strong Messages: The dehumanizing effects of brutal boot camps and it offers a view into the brutalities of WAR.

How can we combine both Segments? Are we supposed to take any conclusions from both away? And how much time was between them, approx?

I'll do the last few movies in theaters

Top Five - 9/10 absolutely hilarious, good story, appreciated the commentary on modern entertainers

Hobbit - 7/10 these movies just don't do it for me really

Unbroken - 8/10 but keeps dropping the more I stop and think about it

The Gambler - 4/10 garbage movie, Goodman was good though

How far back did you go for that one? And why do you disagree with it?

If you want to add that, fine..

Wild - 9/10

I was a huge fan of the book and the film was absolutely fantastic. I loved the way it was structured and I love the adaptation. Reese Witherspoon gives an Oscar worthy performance. Also had a top notch soundtrack and was gorgeous to look at. My second favorite of the year behind Boyhood.

Birdman: 8.7/10

This film works on so many levels. It's an indictment on the elitism/pretension of the New York theater, celebrity obsession (on both sides of the equation), and what fame means in this day an age ('trending', twitter, etc). It's also very meta and works as well as a comedy as it does as drama. Keaton was f*cking brilliant, best lead performance by a male I've seen thus far. The rest of the cast brought was solid all around with Norton being the standout.

The direction was perfect. They made the whole run seem like one seamless, uninterrupted long take with a single steady cam. That must've been like a well-choreographed ballet to pull off.

Watched Nymphomaniac Volume 1 and 2. Volume 2 isn't anywhere near as good as the first part, and I didn't particulary care for the ending either. Gets a bit graphic when she gives herself an abortion with a set of knitting needles and a coat hanger though. Decent enough movies overall though.

Interstellar

6/10

Good movie overall but I have a couple beefs with it.

First of it was much to long and drawn out for my liking. It's very close to 3 hours long and some of the scenes just seem to go on and on forever. They could have chopped much of it down without the viewer losing anything at all IMO.

Second beef is more of an annoyance but there is so much scientifically wrong in the movie that it is hard to look past. Along with so much that just isn't humanly possible. It's movie... Is a movie.
