Default Article: Shortened NBA season would be good for the young at heart

Quote:
Robert Horry recently said the '98-99 season "cut my career by a year." His legs were mush whenever the Lakers played three games in three nights and he remembered falling against hotel walls from fatigue while walking to his room on game-crammed trips.

The Lakers played 50 times in 89 days that year. They got bounced early in the playoffs by San Antonio. They don't want that routine again, especially with eight guys over 30 on their current roster. The season needed to start yesterday for them.

Basically, this should be good for younger guys, bad for older guys, and bad for teams that are not good WITH older guys lol.

Pretty interesting article to add more perspective to our humble opinions.

I read somewhere else (I'll try find the link) that a shorter season favours vets, as they make adjustments quicker than younger guys - and playing more teams in a short period will take a lot of adjusting too. The basic premise was that a shortened season doesn't just have an impact on the physical, but on the mental too. Teams that start well in a short season have a huge advantage...

Interesting stuff tho'. I guess it just depends on opinion... ?

There are definitely the goods and bads for each, veterans and young guys. I don't see the bad for young guys, other than their prime is being wasted. There are guys who are injured for seasons at a time and when they come back, they are still effective (unless of course its the old guy).
