Dwane Casey discusses Barbosa being gone
The National Post reports:
Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey recognized the positives in trading guard Leandro Barbosa to Indiana before Thursday’s trade deadline. Barbosa’s departure did create more “flexibility,” Casey said, but the parting still hurt.
“I love Leandro,” Casey told the media in Memphis Thursday, before the Raptors faced the Grizzles Friday night. And the loss was more than personal. Barbosa had energy off the bench, and a presence in the practice court. Casey praised the guard in the present tense, as if he was still with the team.
“He is the fabric of our team,” Casey said.
Yet, beyond the obvious advantages and disadvantages, the coach was sure what the deal did not mean.
“[Colangelo] and I talked about it,” Casey said. “In no way shape or form are we giving up on the season.”
