Default Rules for a brokered or open convention

Trump has a shot at getting 1237 delegates and thus secure the nomination. But there is a not small chance that he will fall short.

In this case the rules are going to be very important. There are 56 people on the rules committee and all the delegates vote on the rules. If Trump is short of 1237, that means the majority of delegates would be predisposed to vote for rules that makes it harder for Trump to be nominee, but it also means Trump will only need a small number of defections to get the rules he wants.

[QUOTE]The RNC Rules Committee decides party regulations and writes the first draft of convention rules, which are finalized by a convention rules committee and submitted to a floor vote.

Those rules are crucial. They decide which candidates are on the ballot: They could pass a rule allowing only Donald Trump to run in Cleveland, or a rule enabling new candidates to challenge him. They can decide how delegates vote

MSNBC talked to 19 rules committee members and they are divided. Some say you can go with someone who has a plurality, but not a majority and some reject this

Most of them also shot down the idea of nominating Paul Ryan or someone else
Can you elaborate on the bolded

Did you mean there is a large chance

    Funny wording

    I deliberately used not small.

I would say that trump's odds of getting to 1237 are about 55-60% right now.

    so 35-40% is not small.

Of the remaining delegates left to be given out, Trump needs to win something like 55% of them to get the nomination. That's like 10 points higher than what he has won so far. So to get the nomination he has to do ever better. Maybe that is easier in a three man, race, I don't know. But it also means his margin of error is smaller. One miss in a big state and he could far short. Folks were predicted that the states voting earlier in the schedule were more likely to favor Trump. He does less well in states that have high numbers of college graduates.

    Let's be honest...

Convention or not, the nominee will be Cruz or Trump.

Anybody else, and they lose half of the Republican party and will have no shot at winning the general election. None.

They may not like it, but they're not stupid either.

Many are pushing for a Cruz-Kasich 'unity ticket' at the convention.

    Good strategy for winning Ohio.

I could see that as an option, depending how close Trump gets to 1237.

If he gets 1230 and Cruz/Kasich is the choice, 1/3 of the party will not vote.

Kasich? Why does Kasich suddenly have some juice? There are people who aren't even in the race that have more delegates than John Kasich.

We don't know what his motives are because this is quite strange when someone like Rubio drops out and he still is lingering around.

but the question from here on out is does kasich help trump or hurt trump getting to 1237.

Here's someone who is clearly in the Help Trump column

John Kasich Is Wrecking the Republican Party
