Somedays I can get out there and run like a deer for the entire day. Somedays I'm out of breath as soon as I get on the court. Anyone know how I can get some kind of consistency to my stamina?
I'm in pretty good shape, and eat relatively healthy so I'm not sure what the problem is.
I echo the water sentiment. Someone mentioned that here a long time ago and it seems so obvious, but I was a "not drink until thirsty" guy too. By then, I hear it's mostly too late. Now I try to make sure I'm very hydrated prior to playing.
Still, I come out feeling a little rough on some days too, just as you described. One thing that helps (though it's tough) is to forcefully exhaust myself very early on. Sometimes it feels like I just have to break through my tired lull, where my body feels like it doesn't want to wake up. Many times, really forcing myself to run hard early (making myself very out of breath) seems to get things going. I'd need a break to catch myself, but thereafter, the second wind seems to arrive.
