Ideally, each progressive round should bring more obstacles, tougher opposition. You could argue that the Lakers played a depleted Rockets team to a 7 game finale, yet that was the second round. Their run in the Championship rounds put them against teams that were much more worthy opponenets. The Red Wings >> the Magic, but the Hurricanes provided for such an anticlimatic series that it seemed to go right from the Capitals to the Cup Finals without much of a battle.
You can say that, sure, but to totally dismiss a team that made a miraculous two-minute comeback against a Brodeur-led Devils and then smoked a team they were NEVER, and I do mean, NEVER, supposed to beat, is a little much for me. Carolina burned out against a hot Pitt team but they were more than worthy to be there. Ask NJ or BOS how "lukewarm" Cam Ward and the 'Canes were.
