do you have any experience on a bike?

if you don i really suggest you take the motorcycle riding course. basically its one day of classroom and two days of riding, and for the riding they have bikes and helmets provided and at the end of the second day if you pass (its very hard not to) you get a certificate that waives the riding part of your road test, and u'll only have to take the written.

i just took it last week. it was like 5 hours on a monday night in the classroom and then the following saturday and sunday morning for 6 hours in an open parking lot. costs 250 bucks but it'll lower your insurance. i'd recommend it.

*the previous information applies to california, conditions and requirements where you live may differ.

Anyone know how much insurance is on a motorcycle? I really want a car, but a motorcycle is so much cheaper and i'm guessing gas and insurance is also cheaper. I'm not exactly loaded so I'm trying to keep my expenses to a minimum (no cheapo)..

Well it all matters on your age and driving record. I am over 35 and am paying 60 bucks a month for full coverage on my honda cbr600rr.Then again I am in Cali as well. So it may differ by location as well.
I took the MSF class though as was suggested on here and got a 10% discount on my insurance. Also the riding tips are very helpful.. I would suggest it to anyone getting into riding.
My rates just dropped again though as I haven't been ticketed in 3 years.

Also i learned on a 250. It helps you just to get the hang of it. I would try and find someone who has one to practice on it.. But ultimately you are gonna want a 600 or more.
I could do 93 mph pushing the 250 .. but that was it's limit.. and I rode it on a freeway for 8 months before picking up the 600rr for cheap.

Ride safe and keep your head moving at all times. You will not believe how many accidents happen from people running into YOU at a stop light or sign.

it's as cheap as 35 a month depending on the bike.

Driving course was 199, took it when i was under 21 (cheaper). When you take the written test @ the dmv, half the questions are about cars or C class, so it also renews your license for those interested.

well, this has just gotten "bad" written all over it. first, insurance isn't just for if you hurt someone else. what happens if you crash your bike, and the bike slams into someones car? it could not hurt the other person, but there's going to be some damage to the car, and nowadays, any damage at all can get really expensive. then you're going to get the expenses of fines for not having insurance. and if you're health insurance finds out you were riding illegally without regular motorcycle insurance....... i would think they would fight to not have to pay.

I am 35 years old and pay $45 bucks a month year round full coverage on a 2007 gsxr 1000. I don't have any tickets or accidents within the last 10 years.
you have to find the right insurance company. some insurance companies classify bikes as "high risk" (sport bikes) and normal risk (harley, cruiser). the company i'm with just looks at the size (1000cc, 600cc). one other company gave me a quote on the same motorcycle at the exact same time as my ins.company. it was 165 per month because they classify it as a high risk bike.

do you have a buddy that would be willing to let you borrow his bike for half an hour? that's what I did. he rode his bike to the Drivers License facility. I showed up in my car. took the test on his bike while he watched.
