And pick of whoever we want is hilarious. Just like the Lakers were going to sign LeBron after the Heat. Or Durant. Or Paul. Or Durant. Or Love. Or Westbrook.
They finally got LeBron when he has turned his focus onto his off court $$, but still swung worse than a mediocre MLB player.
Most of the PG13 'begging' stems from summer 2017 when we still had Deng, Clarkson, Mozgov early on until the 2017 draft day, Brewer, Nick Young. PG13 would have been a godsend in those desperate times. Anyone would have been sufficient because we didn't expect anything in summer 2017. We luckily got rid of one black mark (pun not intended) in Mozgov on draft day 2017.
There were also major questions of Magic. He had just taken over in February 2017. Nobody knew how he would do. His first real move with Pelinka was trading Lou Williams to Houston. That's it.. PG13 openly said he wanted to be here so we began clammering for PG13.
We stopped begging for PG13 this summer once LeBron news came out the very same day just hours later. The moment we signed LeBron, all that PG13 stuff went out the window. Getting rid of Deng was huge too, Clarkson was a huge deal too back in February. The 1yr deals like Isaiah Thomas are all in the rear-mirror. Lakers fans were worried we would be forced to re-sign IT, which would be worst case scenario. All of that has been erased and is long down the dumpster thankfully. *phew*
Anyways, I don't make excuses for why we didn't get PG. He didn't want to be here, pure and simple. It's a decision he is going to regret, but no matter.. We will get someone just as good in Kawhi or Klay who actually wants to be here. We just have to wait an extra year.
All of those other moves leading up to September 22 2018 gives us the power to choose who we feel fits. We are not desperate for Jimmy Butler. We have the luxury to sign who we want next summer (probably Kawhi or Klay). Before, we were desperate and had no other alternative - we were so desperate that we would have taken anybody that was even halfway good. Those days ended the moment we added LeBron James.
