Default Yi to play PF, never guarenteed any minutes

This is a follow up to the much discussion that has been put into Yi or Yi's representatives demanding a certain amount of playing time before he would agree to play for Milwaukee. Apparently this is not the case

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=671617

"I know no promises were made, because I was involved with some conversations where promises were being sought out," Krystkowiak said. "I was adamant and said that's not the way it's going to happen. We're going to do what we would do for any other player, especially a sixth pick in the draft."

After the Bucks signed Yi, reports surfaced that team owner Herb Kohl and general manager Larry Harris had promised the former Guangdong Tigers star that he would play 25 minutes a game.

Harris also contested that version of the story Friday.

"They didn't want him to come here, sit on the bench and just languish," Harris said of Chinese basketball officials. "He was the best player in China last year, the most marketable, the most recognizable.

"He was a three-time MVP (in the Chinese Basketball Association), champion three out of the last five years. So it was almost like we were taking their son from their country. They wanted to make sure we take care of him, and that's what we promised we would do, make him the player that he wants to be. The word minutes never came up."

It seems that the situation wasn't what many people originally thought, in any case im interested to see him at the 4 spot this year.

Yi is going to get lit up at PF. Guys like Brandon Bass were killing him this summer. I can't imagine what starting PFs from the NBA will do to him.

Eh, him or Charlie, both would get lit up. Rather get whatever I can from Yi on offense than have a semi-mediocre defender like Gadzuric out there.

What happed to Charlie V? Brian Skinner? Or is Yi coming off the bench?

Wouldn't he do better at SF.

All Yi has to do is shown even a bit of effort on D and the defensive glass and he should beat out Charlie V for the starting spot.

I really don't like the construction of the Bucks. Their best center is better in the high post and their best PF's are both face-up guys.

On top of that their best SG has never seen a shot he didn't like. Larry Krystkowiak has his work cut out for him.

Seems like the Bucks management is trying to dodge the issue. Obviously they gave him some kind of guarantee, even if it wasn't necessarily 25 minutes a game. Like Harris said himself, Yi's people didn't want him to come to Milwaukee to sit on the bench. They wouldn't have changed their minds about letting him come over if he wasn't promised at least a solid spot in the rotation.

He will see his minutes anyway. Not sure if as much as 25 a night, but promises aside, Bucks want to try see how this kid works.

Charlie Villanueva is also looking for his pt, so they will probably split their minutes. Good thing, maybe they grow a healthy rivalry at PF and help develop each other.

Yi doesn't have the game to play the 3.

He has a chance at the 4 but he has to get much stronger and put on weight. He fumbled the ball all the time after contact during the games i watched.

He isn't in Charlie V's league right now.

Yi seems to be more of an inside scorer (or less of an outside scorer, if you prefer it that way) than Charlie V, which is why it would make more sense to make him play the four on offense.

But make him defend against the likes of Howard? Jesus Christ.
