    Not too crazy to gain 15-20 lbs of muscle in a 4 month span.

    Consider all the calories they burn during the season by playing games and practicing and lifting. Those burnt calories could contribute to muscle mass... but by being burned off, they're not.

    Now, in the 4 month span of their summer, they train, sure... but training likely doesn't burn as many calories as the real games do, so suddenly their bodies CAN convert those calories to muscle mass. Plus, the players can devote more time and energy to lifting.

    So I don't see how it's so unrealistic for players to add 15-20 pounds. If EVERYONE was doing it, then sure, that's crazy. But it's newsworthy now when a player adds that kind of bulk. It's newsworthy because it's difficult, and it shows their dedication.
