Joel is the best center on the roster but Spo wants to be a trendsetter.

The problem with Joel is that he's awful at rebounding, which goes hand in hand with defense. Miami could use a decent center, but there are none willing to play for the minimum. They're going to have a good enough team to get into the playoffs and then just ride it out until the playoffs and see how far LeBron can take them.

Joel is a pretty good offensive rebounder. When he can't grab the ball himself, he taps it to a teammate and that rebound does not get credited to him. It happens several times a game (when he gets PT).

He is not a very good defensive rebounder, but he is one of the best rim protectors in the league. His defensive impact was underrated last year, so I'm glad that they are struggling without him this year.

The Heat definitely need a serviceable center. With the way they were originally constructed as a team, they could rely on simply just having enough talent to compensate for the lack of a post presence on either side of the ball. I don't know if Wade has truly declined or if he's just off to a slow start due to injury. If he's truly declined, then IMO, the Heat just don't have that "talent" advantage anymore which can compensate for their post deficiencies.

he's basically a white Joel Anthony

if anything, Anthony is better than Birdman at this point.

The Heat needs someone like Okafor.

I agree with the backtaps on offense, but that's all he provides on offense. He's a mediocre defensive rebounder and terrible offensive player. He can't even catch the ball right underneath the basket for easy dunks.

I wouldn't mind trying to pair Joel with Bosh and then having Ray Allen on offense with LeBron and Chalmers. At least when you're launching threes it gives you more room to backtap.

He's just not as good or going to be as good as people made him out to be, as I tried to tell people. I don't fault him for not being able to carry a team at 22 years old while coming into the league with nothing but spot up skills. Plenty of idiots do, but I don't.

They try to run shit through Hibbert but it just doesn't work. They give it to him from 8 or so feet out and try to cut off him but Granger's not there so defenders have no reason not to cheat and by the time Hibbert's passing lanes are closed defense is more than set and he's just weak. Quick dump down and a little baby over the shoulder hook is his move, not dribble a guy down under the hoop. His punk ass can't eve get consistent block position, let alone create it after he catches the entry.

Indy's offense is a legitimate disaster.
    Eric Bledsoe for Paul George?

i always try to think to myself why blue-collar player like Joel is such a bad rebounder.

    normally hard work pays off

and he has great athleticism for his position

with that said,he was VERY effective in that Bulls series 2 years ago and maybe needs to get more minutes.

He lacks fundamentals. Haslem needs to teach him how to get his timing and positioning down. But I don't think Joel's shown much effort to learn.

He's made no effort to develop his offensive arsenal at all in the past 4 years.

There you go. If he was a bad rebounder (rough) but didn't suck so hard at catching the ball when wide open, he would be starting. If he was just as bad (and even a little worse) on offense, but could give you a rebound every 3 min, he'd be starting. It's hard to be a defensive specialist at C, who rebounds less than the SF even when the SF isn't Lebron.

You guys should really give Harrellson a start and I'll tell you why. He's a decent shot-blocker, tho he isn't a true rim protector. He isn't an anchor. But he's a great post defender and he is terrific at contesting shots and doing so without fouling (like ever). He's also a solid rebounder.

Chris Bosh works at C, for offense. Just like KG. Because he ends up a stretch 5 or, more accurately, his old self at PF. It forces him to get in the low post and be recognized by the team. It also clears the lane and compensates for him not running the floor. He's also a trailer on the run. Harrellson is not gonna clog the lane on offense, as he'll end up on the perimeter a lot and also setting a lot of screens and working hard, doing the little things that would greatly benefit Miami. Chris Bosh doesn't work on defense. He's a shot-blocker under the rim but he's not a rim-protector and his rotations are not good enough. Give Harrellson a shot.

Put Anthony in the starting line-up over Battier. Make the second unit Ray/Lewis/Haslem/Battier/Cole, that way Battier's perimeter defense covers up Ray's deficiencies and Anthony can stop Battier from getting manhandled early or getting into foul trouble and also switch with Bosh defensively

Do you feel larry birds departure has anything to do with the teams current performance?

I know you're asking someone else, but if I could off my two cents: I think the team's current performance has something to do with Bird not being there...more accurately, I think the current team is why he's not there.

Miami don't really need a center. It would help if they had one, but they don't need one to win the East. They need to kick up their defense. Their defense isn't what it used to be last year. And they need healthy Wade.
