logos are what advertisers view as branding. it is a way to recognize, at a glance, the company/organization the logo represents

it has taken decades for the nba to spread its logo worldwide and for sports fans, the nba logo has great recognition

to change it to mj's jumpman logo would be to commit marketing suicide because that logo is now associated with shoes
