Re: Free agents signings..
Rebuild with the draft. Wilcox, Mason, Smith, Swift are on decent money and won't do anything for you. It will be time to not only let them go but to decrease their involvement this year. I would also trade Earl Watson if he is unhappy to play off the bench.
I would go-
PG- Westbrook, Watson (get any PG that is happy with minimum minutes in a package)
SG- Durant, Wilkins/Weaver
SF- Green (one of Durant or Green is always on court)
PF- Young, Wilcox/Smith (limited minutes)
C- Petro, Sene
The nucleus of the team needs to have their experience accelerated and this will be achieved by giving them max minutes in a trial and error process. Put your trust in Young (3 year contract) and get him involved as well (future center here) and see if either Petro or Sene can at least be serviceable future backups at center at the very least. If you get a top draft and Blake Griffin is available, take him and your starting five for next season looks like this-
Westbrook
Durant
Green
Griffin
Young
Four of them would have hopefully benefited from the big minutes together this year and then you progress Griffin along much the same way. Put your faith in him and let him play. The team could surprise a few people after some time together and then your attention can be on the 2010 draft and the opportunity to snare a big name or two.
Patience is the key.
