Default Ipod Touch help

My Ipod used to work perfectly.. until a couple months ago. Now the sound only works when I have headphones plugged in. If I listen to a song with my headphones and then unplug them it stops playing and the sound bar vanishes.. when i turn my Ipod back on it makes the noise that it makes when the slide to unlock it. I can then turn the volume up/down using the side controls for about 2 seconds and then it just stops.

I have tried restarting it, resetting it, everything I could think of..

If anyone has any suggestions or knows has this happened to them.. HELP!
