Yeah, sometime before Wilt's 100 point game (that's a clip form that broadcast). So it was shortly before Wilt really packed on mass, Wilt was about 265lbs in 1962.

Even though it was before he added mass I'm surprised he lost. With such long/strong arms you'd think he would of won.
If I'm not mistaken I remember you quoting or showing an article of Auerbach saying Wilts bench coming into the Nba was about 350-400 correct?

can see why he lost

I had heard about that Jim Brown story, but didn't know it came from that old.
From the very little I know about football, Jim Brown was basically at Wilt's age. When was his own strength prime?

At around the time of Wilt's first few seasons, when the Warriors were still in Philly, a young teenage Wali Jones (future NBA teammate of Wilt's) claimed to have witness Wilt bench press 350lbs. That's the only cited figure of his bench press that I'm aware of off the top of my head from that specific time period, there could be others though.

I know Wilt was pretty much a superhero. Hell, I'll even buy the faster end to end than Magic and 40 inch vert whilst able to throw 270 lbs guys around like ragdolls, but 450 is a bit much.

120? Plates are usually 15-20 pounds. And it LOOKS to be about 30 plates. My 450 estimate is if it was 30 plates of 15 pounds. I doubt they're 10 pounds.
I just started working out again after 3 years. Farted around with weightlifting my junior/senior year of HS(not pretending to know shit about it), and fractured my sternum a few months after I graduated. I'm 5'9 195 and after not working out in 3 years I was able to row 200 on my first day using a machine just like that. Wilt is 7'1 300 + in that photo and took fitness far more seriously than I do.
I see no reason to believe that Wilt couldn't double my row considering his prior weight training and that he's a freak athlete.
The MAIN problem is that we don't know how many times he did it. He could of just did that "450" once for the photo, or he can rep it. Which is frightening to think about

I wish they'd get a group of great big men like Russell, Shaq, Hakeem, Kareem, Walton, Malone, McGee Etc and watch videos like this and discuss it. HOF big men talking about each other sounds like one hell of an interesting discussion.
Or at least NBA roundtable
