Re: Kansas City Star reports Alex Smith traded to Washington Redskins
Yup.
I would have been mildly okay with this if the dumbass Redskins didn't include Fuller in the deal. Good young corner, high ranked slot CB who can play outside.
A good front office could have pulled off the Smith deal for the 3rd rounder flat. Stupid FO overpays again in a trade.
Skins saved only about $6 million in potential long term deal with Cousins but whatever.
I don't even care about my birth rite team all that much anymore. I always will to some extent but IDGAF compared to my devoted past lmao.
I actually can't wait for this NFL season to be over, it's been an annoying year in many respects.

This.
Kirk can make every throw on the field. Smith's only real advantage is he takes better care of the ball but his ceiling is . . . not what a winning team needs without the defense and RBs that can compensate.
However, I did hear that Smith had a much better year throwing the ball downfield.

Just saw that the skins also extended Smith for $71mil guaranteed ($94m/4yr total)... what a bargain!
Sad that this is indeed the case. One thing Smith can do better is improvise when a play breaks down.
I don't uderstand the extension. Cousins obv didn't wanna resign but keeping him would have been like $6 million more per if they structured a normal long term extension.
Smith is expendable after just a couple years so they have team.
Still, this franchise is an abject failure. Letting a top 10 QB like Kirk get away in the prime of his career.

Losing Kendall Fuller, highly highly rated slot CB on a rookie contract.
This franchise sucks the life out of me like a dementor.
Try being a Browns fan. We haven't had a QB remotely close to Alex Smith's level in lord knows how long. I'm really pissed the Browns didn't push harder to get Smith. I don't get the hate on the guy, I think he's always been underrated.

I think Smith will have the Skins near the playoffs. I have a bad feeling he's going to get a season ending injury though
I read that the Browns wanted Smith bad but not as bad as DEN and WSH.
Apparently, DEN was going to give KC a second rounder & Aqib Talib.
Obviously that's a better pot for KC than what the Skins gave up but the Redskins were willing to extend the Smith contract, which got the deal done

but damn,... you guys overpaid.
Makes me a little nervous about Dak's future contract.
Just wait. The Smith cap hit may be a bargain in a year, esp two.
Cousins will be the highest paid player in NFL history most likely. He reset the QB market again. The cap will rise and guys like Wentz, Rodgers, Prescott, etc. will be getting $30- $35 million.
If Kirk Cousins fetches $30 a year or close, think what those other guys will get next time around
