MIAMI - The Miami Heat signed veteran point guard Carlos Arroyo, who starred at nearby Florida International University, on Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a one-year contract.
Last season, Arroyo, 29, played in Israel for Maccabi Tel Aviv after spending the 2005-8 seasons with the Orlando Magic.
A member of Puerto Rican National team, Arroyo provides depth as Chris Quinn is sidelined with a foot injury.
Arroyo will wear jersey No 8.
I don't know if its guaranteed or not, but he's better than Quinn, and he was a decent role player for the Magic. Hopefully he makes the team.
He's been done a pretty good job so far. He moves the ball well enough and doesn't seem to have trouble with pressure defense like quinn seemed to have. He has a pretty good jump shot. The only real problem is his defense. It's adequate, but he was exposed against Gilbert when he was tagged for quick fouls. We'll have to see what happens along the way before more can be said.
