Stopped working out for 7-8 months because of school. Thinking of joining a local Planet Fitness. My bro has gotten massive gains using a strict routine at the place but he did say it's quite limited in terms of free weights.
There's a really nice gym thats a bit pricer near my college campus but I live far from it .
I just started deadlifts at a similar weight and do 185 reps. Max is 225 (well not really, I tried it and did 2 reps cleanly). Wow I got ways to go.
dont try to rush it but once you get comfortable with the technique your 1 rep max will sky rocket at a pretty fast pace. i think i went from using 135lbs to 315lbs in a 5-6 month period. Could have probably achieved it even faster if i really focused on it
Despite not really working out this year due to grad school, I lost 3% body fat but lost 2-3 pounds of lean muscle. Literally lost my abs... before school I dirty bulked for a few months and my abs were rock hard and I was hitting 170 on the scale (at that point, I was lifting a lot more weight too but barely touched cardio). Now I'm 164 and my abs are no where near it. I was supposed to cut in the first few months of grad school but due to stress and my schedule, I couldn't really eat a lot of the healthy stuff I usually do because they take time to make etc. Actually I did cut down from 170 eventually to 158 over 3 weeks but I didn't maintain my gains with 3-4x a week lifting/cardio.
One of my friends dropped 20 lbs this year and 9% body fat (he did look like he lost about 5 or so lbs but not as much as he claimed) using it. He's finally below 20%.
So I've seen improvements in every part of my body pretty much besides legs and abs. Been lifting more focused, my arms definitely got bigger, same with chest and back. Granted, I haven't fixed my diet yet for a "6 pack," I know it requires a lot of clean protein/carbs.
Also for bulking, it's important to of course monitor what you eat. I remember one of my closest friends who has been lifting for years and at times was around 5-10% body fat (although he was a pure runner at the time) by accidentally dirty bulked when he became more of a weightlifter and he ended up having a chubby face (for the first time) but when he cut, he never got that 6 pack again really but he's still probably pressing 15% body fat cleanly with a ton of muscle just not the aesthetics that he once had. Took him years but he properly bulked about 30 pounds.
As of now, I'm at 165 or so. Since it's the summer season, I'm trying to cut down to 155-158. Eventual goal is to bulk up properly to 170-175 by next winter.
