That's exactly what I was thinking. Although people are probably thinking they will sign for more so that is why they aren't saying them. From everything I've read though, those guys are only going to get paid the vets minimum. Detroit is still going to sign a big guy for the vets minimum. Gooden and Ben Wallace are certainly on their radar. I can see why teams may not want Wallace as a fit, but it would seem like a team in contention would like a guy like Gooden to come off the bench and provide some scoring, especially since he'll be cheap.

So if this happens, lakers replace two athletic players for two big muscle guys.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Ariza wasn't skilled as much as he was athletic. Shelden can be our hustle guy off the bench and rely on his strength for his success whereas Artest is the skilled of the 2 and is more like the Odom.

I don't think lakers lose in this case if shelden becomes an ariza caliber player.

developing shelden would require lightning to strike 3 times

ariza,brown,"shelden?"

you think the lakers could pull that off

What do we really need from shelden? Not too much I don't think. I wish I was a big man who played for the lakers. They always seem to have an easy role.
