I think it's the way people think when they're younger. I remember when my cousin and I were cousin were in our early teens, on Sports Classic they showed the game where Thomas scored like 24 points in the fourth to win the game, and he asked me, "So is Isiah the greatest player of all time?" Only having been into the NBA for a few years, their reaction to a big game is different than someone who has seem them countless of time throwout the year.

Actually the reason why Dirk could have a god-like performance is that the Thunder held on to it. Had the Mavs led by 30 in halftime, there would not have been a Dirk-show at all since he'd be sitting on the bench.

From an athleticism standpoint, I don't think Larry was top tier. Bird's a top ten player no doubt. It was sad seeing him sprawled out on the floor a-la Steve Nash.

Just posing the question whether we think Dirk's accomplishments (minus the rings) are equal or greater than Larry's.

Dirk has scored more than this in the playoffs before, yet no one was saying this kind of stuff. It's amazing what beating the Lakers can do for your reputation. Larry Bird was a different breed of player - he was possibly one of the toughest players of his era - I swear it's all about stats in today's league. Stats = what a player is or isn't.

In all fairness to dirk, he could have won titles with Shaq and the Lakers or some other loaded teams before... He is a top player but he is lacking when you compare him to bird...
