Default People living in Midwest; brace yourselves

We're staring at a powerful storm that is poised to rake high winds, severe t-storms, and, yes, even wet snow in parts of the Midwest. Some effects of this storm may also tease parts of the South and Northeast as well.

Forecast weather map Tuesday evening
Image: NOAA/NCEP

Meteorologists know this will be intense due to expected lowest central pressure of the low in western Ontario bottoming out in the neighborhood of 960-970 mb. This is a storm potentially as strong or stronger than the infamous "Edmund Fitzgerald" storm in Nov. 1975 and an even stronger version almost exactly 23 years after that in Nov. 1998.

Let's step through the timing and impacts of this multi-faceted storm.

Supposed to be the strongest windstorm in Midwest since 1998...
Everyone at my school is praying that the storm is going to be so bad that the power gets knocked out and will need to be fixed...

Not necessarily; some houses have generators...

We lost power when I was with my fam in Ann Arbor this summer in our little subdivision. I swear we were the only house without a generator. Kind of annoying to walk around the block only to hear the constant buzzing of dozens of generators putting in serious work.

Also, I know generators are not super luxurious or anything, but it did feel like I was in a little bit of an uppity situation. I mean, everyone's gotta break out the generators after four hours of no energy? We threw our perishable food items into a couple coolers with ice and called it good!
