Actually, Translation: I don't have favorite players for any reasons other than playing ability. I just objectively evaluate them. LeBron for instance, is far and away the best player since prime Shaq. But between Shaq and LeBron we had Tim Duncan, another legend who was my "favorite player" at some point. And before prime Shaq the dominant force was MJ, before that Hakeem, before that MJ again, before that Magic, before him Bird, and so on...

What an absolutely abhorrent way to go about following basketball/sports.

Yes it seems that, as a fan of the sport of basketball, people who are actually the best at playing said sport tend to be my favorite players. This is obviously so much worse than rooting for a player for reasons completely unrelated to basketball.

Its ok to like a sport and the guys who play it best over a randomly selected hero that youre liking just bc he has cool hair or went to your high school. If you wanna root for guys based on that its fine but its also fine not to.
