Yes it seems that, as a fan of the sport of basketball, people who are actually the best at playing said sport tend to be my favorite players. This is obviously so much worse than rooting for a player for reasons completely unrelated to basketball.

So you dont pick your favorite movies or favorite bands based on which you think are best, but instead which one has a lead singer from your hometown, or a director who once sat next to your grandfather at the bar in a airport hotel???
Its ok to like a sport and the guys who play it best over a randomly selected hero that youre liking just bc he has cool hair or went to your high school. If you wanna root for guys based on that its fine but its also fine not to.
