As long as they take Smart and Tucker I think they'll have a chance to grit it out...but it won't be easy.

Better be doubling jokic and Giannis as often as possible. The two best players in the tournament easily

John Karalis: Gregg Popovich on Marcus Smart: “He’s going to be a day-to-day type of thing. Probably won’t practice the next couple of days I wouldn’t think.” – via Twitter RedsArmy_John

One topic Popovich did steer clear of was a recent comment made by Serbian national team coach Aleksandar “Sasha” Djordjevic about potentially playing against U.S. Djordjevic said that if the Americans and Serbians meet in next month’s World Cup, “Let’s let them play their basketball and we will play ours and if we meet, may God help them” according to Eurohoops.net and Mozzart Sport. “You’ll have to ask Sasha,” Popovich said. “I don’t really pay attention too much. I’ve been doing this too long. But he’s a hell of a coach. He’s a competitor, and he’s been a hero in Europe as a player. He was fantastic, and they have a program that goes way back with a lot of success. – via ESPN

When the Jazz guard first accepted his invitation to train with the national squad, he was simply hoping to do enough to earn a spot on the roster. But after several high-profile NBA stars withdrew from the national team’s talent pool, Mitchell has found himself in an unexpected, but welcomed, position as a possible starter for his country. “A lot of the guys dropped out. I didn’t know what to expect,” he said. “But my approach is the same. My biggest thing is to come out here and compete. Be the best defender, the best competitor, whatever I need to do to be on the floor.” Mitchell, for his part, had planned to honor his commitment to Team USA regardless. “It’s an honor,” he said, wearing his blue No. 53 practice jersey. “I was never able to be a part of USA Basketball in high school or college. So for me, it’s a privilege.” – via NBA.com

Gregg Popovich has a devious plan to slow down Patty Mills when Team USA takes on the Boomers in next week’s pre-World Cup exhibition games in Melbourne. The master NBA coach is going to fatten the Australian point guard up. “I’m going to take him out to eat,” Popovich, jokingly told reporters on Los Angeles on Tuesday. “I’m going to fill him up and try to make him fat so he can’t move around so quickly.” – via 7NEWS.com.au

Mitchell is prepared for plenty of Ingles’ legendary trash talk and cheeky play. “He’s always grabbing at you, pulling your shorts and stuff,” said Mitchell, recounting his experience on the Jazz practice court with Ingles. “He’s a fierce competitor and I’m looking forward to it.” – via 7NEWS.com.au

How do you figure?

That team was a mess due to chemistry, fit, coaching and being thrown together at the last minute. But it definitely had way more talent than this current team.

Who is our best player? Maybe D Mitchell?

The only reason they’re the prohibited favorite, is because of the past 12 years worth of dominance.

The competition is definitely worse than what 2004 was going to face team wise

Based on what ... I’d take 2004 in a head to head vs this team.

Yeah that doesn’t make sense. The 2014 actually has the superior talent. And Larry Brown isn’t chopped liver. He hates playing young guys.

They had a poor roster construction for international play, quickly thrown together, with a bunch of players who at the time weren’t taking it seriously or remotely interested in playing defense.

The 2004 is easily more talented. By comparison, they have two or three of the best players between the two teams are on the 2004 squad

they might be more talented but they finally learned that it's about putting together a team not marketing the next stars or putting together an all-star team

This year they have a team as they've had since 2006 not just a bunch of guys that want to put up stats
